A very sunny afternoon for our stroll around the city today. Taking the Northern line south from Brent Cross, and changing onto the Victoria line at Euston, we soon arrived at Green Park. We were here to see and photograph the Bomber command memorial, situated at the Hyde Park end of the park, and it was quickly located. It is a magnificent monument, a very fitting tribute to the brave men of Bomber Command.

A short walk along Constitution hill brought us to Buckingham Palace, where we were just in time to watch the start of a charity cycle ride in aid of Help For Heroes – over 1000 cyclists. It was an unforgettable sight.

By now we were getting hungry – it was time to head for Snax and Costa Coffee, both close to Embankment tube station, for lunch. So familiar am I with the city now that our route was both short and direct – I’m a Brummy Cockney nowadays !!!!

Walking through St. James’s park and The Mall allowed me to fire off a few shots with the 5D ……

After eating lunch in the Victoria Embankment Gardens we headed for The Strand – we wanted to locate and snap the disused tube station at Aldwych. On the way we paid a flying visit to the courtyard of Somerset House, where we watched youngsters dodging the fountains.

Aldwych station took a little spotting – it was situated further along the Strand than We’d expected.  It’s an eerie sight – looking like it was boarded up just yesterday. Hopefully we’ll be able to view the station on a guided tour, run by the London Transport Museum, pretty soon.

A walk around Covent Garden, trying to locate a pub I’d visited 4 years ago, proved fruitless, so we adjourned to the Marquess Of Anglesey for a swift cock-a-knee pint …….

A quick stroll to Leicester Square tube station brought our day to a close – the good old Northern Line delivered us back to the car at Brent Cross quickly and safely ……
